Folkestone & Hythe District Council acquires Westenhanger Castle as the centrepiece to the Otterpool Park proposed development.

The purchase includes the historic building, barns and parkland, which date back to medieval times and sit at the heart of the proposed garden town. If plans go ahead, a public park will be developed around the castle for people living there and in the local area to enjoy.

The council has said its priority is to preserve and protect Westenhanger Castle’s heritage whilst taking this opportunity to shape the next part of its history. It has bought the castle to ensure it has a secure and sustainable future and can be properly incorporated into plans for the town, connecting it to other facilities and bringing it into wider community use.
