A crucial part of the Otterpool Park development has been approved taking the project a step closer to delivery.
Plans for wastewater treatment works, associated wetlands and a primary substation at Otterpool Park – submitted by Otterpool Park LLP – have been approved by Kent County Council.
Public consultation activity was undertaken prior to the submission of the planning application.
Council Leader Cllr Jim Martin said: “I am thrilled that this planning application has been approved. This early infrastructure will be vital to supporting the community’s needs and ensuring both sustainable water management and the safeguarding of environmental standards.’
The positive decision on the application follows news of a renewed collaboration agreement between Folkestone & Hythe District Council and Homes England – the government’s housing and regeneration agency. The collaboration gives the council access to the additional skills and expertise necessary to successfully progress the high-quality scheme and attract the level of investment required to deliver at this scale.
Homes England have demonstrated their commitment to the project by supporting further land acquisition needed to facilitate the delivery of new homes as part of the new Garden Town.
Charlotte O’Mahony, Director of Projects at Homes England said: “This is a significant step forward for Otterpool Park. With key infrastructure approved and strong partnership working in place, we are focused on accelerating delivery and creating a sustainable, high-quality new community.”
Chair of Otterpool Park LLP, Paula Hirst said: “The approval of the wastewater treatment infrastructure is a major milestone towards delivery. I am also delighted that Homes England have demonstrated their confidence in the scheme through another land acquisition.’
Otterpool Park will deliver 8,500 high-quality homes alongside the supporting infrastructure to create a sustainable and successful new community.
