Family open day comes to Westenhanger Castle

18 August 2021

A free Family Open Day will take place at Westenhanger Castle this Saturday 21 August from 11am – 3pm, giving members of the public the opportunity to enjoy the historic castle and its grounds.

The castle will be open to the public and attendees can enjoy games and craft activities in the castle marquee, run by local arts group Strange Cargo. Attendees can make a range of crafts including a Roman Emperor Medal and a winner’s rosette as well as have a go at learning rug making techniques to create a racehorse garland.

There will be a map display showing the historic finds that archaeologists have unearthed on the site during their assessments. Visitors are invited to bring a picnic to enjoy on the castle grounds, with an exciting treasure hunt to finish off the day. There is plenty of free parking on site.

The family open day follows two events called ‘Telling the Otterpool Tale’ that were held at Sellindge and Lympne village halls this month. More than 120 people attended the events, held to engage people with the history of the Otterpool Park site.
